Short-line tax credit bill reintroduced in Congress

Feb. 1, 2017 -A bill that would make permanent the short-line track maintenance tax credit known as 45G was introduced this week in the U.S. House of Representatives, the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) announced yesterday.

The Building Rail Access for Customers and the Economy (BRACE) Act (H.R. 721) was introduced by U.S. Reps. Lynn Jenkins (R-Kan.), Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) and Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.)

If passed, the legislation would allow small railroads to spend more of their revenue rehabilitating infrastructure, according to an ASLRRA press release.

Freight trains bring in the raw materials local manufacturers need be productive and the items consumers want to see on store shelves, and they carry the finished goods produced in the Metroplex for distribution to markets across the nation and around the globe.
